Mila Kunis and her $90 wedding bling

Mila Kunis was never just your average A-lister, so it is perhaps not surprising that it has fallen to her to dispel one of the last myths: that for residents of Hollywood bling is best.

Kunis, 32, has confessed that instead of hitting the high-end jewellers of Beverly Hills for her wedding ring, she bought it online for $90. While she was at it, she got one for her husband, Ashton Kutcher, too, for a whopping $100 dollars, which may or may not have earned her a two-for-one discount.

Even more remarkable than the price was the vendor. She bought the rings on Etsy, an online marketplace of vintage and handmade products usually shopped by ordinary Joes hoping for a scatter cushion or a beach bag, and not by Hollywood actresses looking for a visible symbol of love.

Before we all start to feel sorry for Kunis with her $90 wedding ring, it should be noted that she is the proud owner of a diamond engagement ring that was presumably not sourced at Etsy: a five-carat, plain round diamond that has been described as not ostentatious, although there are few places outside Beverly Hills where a five-carat diamond would be described thus.

The fact is, only Beyonce, Jennifer Aniston, the Kardashians and their like can get away with wearing designer diamonds the size of ice cubes on their fingers. For the rest, it’s stealth wealth. No ring, less bling.
