A week ago, on June 22, there was the summer solstice in Northern Sweden. If you have a clear wiev of the horizon you can then see the midnight sun, which means that the sun doesn’t set, just dwells on the horizon. From my balcony I can only see the sun set behind the trees in the wood. This day/night was cloudy, but nevertheless I could see the colours of the setting sun just past midnight.

Two hours later my livingroom was all red. I don’t know if I should call this the sunset or the sunrise, but it was magical. One hour later the red colour had faded and the sky was grey.

För en dryg vecka sedan, den 22 juni, inföll sommarsolståndet. Tyvärr var det mulet och regnigt, men vid midnatt bröt de starka färgerna från solnedgången igenom som på första bilden. Ett par timmar senare färgades hela mitt vardagsrum rött och jag gick ut på balkongen och tog den andra bilden. Helt magiskt. Efter bara en timme hade den röda färgen bleknat och himlen var grå igen.

Now is the time of the year when I can’t go to sleep. The light is magic throughout the night. The sun sets and turns around there behind the trees and rises again. It’s 2.30 a.m. The summer solstice is the 21st of June this year. Then you can see the midnight sun lingering on the horizon a little bit further up from where I live.

Nu är den tiden när jag inte kan gå och lägga mig. Det magiska sommarnattsljuset håller mig i sitt grepp Solen går ner, svänger runt där bakom träden och stiger upp igen. Klockan är 02.30. Den 21 juni är det sommarsolstånd och sedan blir det gradvis mörkare, så det gäller att ta till vara på ljuset.
